Consequences Of Plagiarism
The most significant part of the franchise system value lies on intellectual property (IP). The basic types of IP in the franchising world are trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights. Trademarks are the name, slogans and logos used in association with its products services and even copy of literary artworks. A copyright is the right to reproduce and displays the logo, artworks, manuals, advertising materials and other creative works. Trade secrets are the confidential information like secret formulas and know-how; it also includes formulas, patterns, programs, devices, compilations, methods and techniques that are used in one's business. Trade secret has an independent economic value that provides an advantage to other competitors who are not aware of it or to use it.
Internet is a basic source of information and internet can pose serious challenges for franchisors. It is easy for a franchise to copy and manipulate the information on the internet. This would be a serious violation for copyrights and trade secrets on the internet; it would be very hard to retrieve once it is posted on the internet.
For many years, many people have become a victim of intellectual property rights. Many people have created different products and literary artworks on the internet and have been copied and duplicated. Many people are doing plagiarism in the internet and do not know the consequences for these actions. Today, intellectual property is a growing site of controversies and conflicts and as well as a source of wealth and power. It is similar to the term counterfeit that describes fake goods. Piracy is an act of reproducing music, movies, books or other copyrighted works without permission from the copyright owner, charges will be implemented to people who will be caught.

Civil remedies that may provide compensation to intellectual property rights holders are available, criminal cases are often sanctioned and warranted to ensure that deterrence of wrongful activity and sufficient punishment will be implemented. Violation of intellectual property rights often involves no loss on intangible asset and does not require any contact with the right holder. The right holder does not usually know that they are a victim once the accused is identified and investigated. Government all over the world strengthened and expanded the laws for violations of intellectual property rights especially on the internet. Intellectual property rights are concerned about proving adequate protections and regulations for both domestic and foreign owners of intellectual property rights.
Now almost all government in the world is a member of the World intellectual property organization (WIPO) and World trade organization (WTO). Both of these organizations administers agreements and have established international IP standards.
Misuse of intellectual property rights has not been criminalized. The best example of this is infringement of a patent; it is not generally a criminal violation. The laws protecting personal identifiable information do not generally provide civil and criminal penalties except in the narrowest circumstances.
Laws on Intellectual property on the internet is now being strengthened and implemented. People who are caught will be brought to trial and will suffer criminal charges.
